I recently had the opportunity to connect with Woody Gillespie to learn more about the weekly men's group that meets on Tuesday mornings from 6:30-7:30 a.m. in the Gideon Blackburn House on the corner of Lincoln and Gates in downtown Huntsville. If you have questions about this group, you may contact Woody at 256-541-3568.
CJ: Hey, Woody. I had a couple of questions about the men's group. Is it open to any guy, and what does the commitment look like?
Woody: We are open to any men who want to join a small group. Our group is open at any time- to anyone with no commitment required. Just seeking some fellowship with men walking out their faith together!!
CJ: What do you guys do when you gather?
Woody: Our group is structured as follows: Greetings and coffee- starting at 6:15 - 6:30 a.m. We start at 6:30 with prayer and worship. One man from the group will share how God is currently working in his life. We like to think of this as a time to be authentic- to share what's on our hearts and how we are growing in our faith, or how we are making it through difficult seasons of life. The ones who share do it voluntarily, and they usually know a week ahead of time. This brings us to around 7:00 a.m., and then we break into small groups of 3 or 4 men. We share prayer requests briefly and maybe something current that God has impressed upon us. We try to finish at 7:30 a.m. so that everyone can get to work on time. etc. The group is something that I view as the single biggest driver of my spiritual growth. It’s awesome to have a group of brothers who are this close, who share a passion for the ministry and making a difference for families in this area.
