Behold Your King

This past Sunday at Rivertree we closed the service with a wonderful song by Lauren Daigle entitled “Light Of the World.”  Karen Tillery introduced me to it last year, and as I listened to the lyrics I thought, “this is what Advent is all about.”

We’re all waiting for something.  For some it’s a better day than today.  For some it’s answers.  For others it’s the healing of a loved one.  And still for others it is lasting peace, forever love, or joy to overcome sadness.  No matter who you are, there is something you are waiting for.

For the believer, I think the bridge of this beautiful song that Tish sang so well last Sunday sums Advent up quite nicely.

For all who wait.
For all who hunger.
For all who’ve prayed.
For all who wonder.

Behold your King!
Behold Messiah!
Emmanuel! Emmanuel!

There’s the answer we’re waiting for.  The same Messiah the Israelites were waiting for.  Emmanuel - God with us.  Jesus.  The Word made flesh as a baby born in Bethlehem, who grew up to bear a cross for our sins.  The one who rose again, and (wait for it) is coming again soon.

Hope. Peace. Joy. Love. Christ!

Merry Christmas, friends.  Behold your King!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  - Isaiah 9:6
